William was born abt1823 at Houghton le Moor, Yorkshire.
He married Sarah Wood (b abt1822) in the summer of 1847 in the Darlington Registration district. The 1851 census identifies two children.
- William Maynard (1848-1909) – died in Sydney, Australia
- Sarah Ann (b1849)
I have not been able to identify William or Sarah after the 1851 census.
Their son William Maynard is found in 1861 living with an aunt at Redcar, North Yorkshire, and there is a death record in Sydney, Australia.
Leary records a W Calvert stationed in Melbourne, Australia in 1856, who disappears in 1857.
Based on this evidence it appears likely that William and Sarah went to Australia in the mid-1850s and at least one of their children followed them at a later stage.
