Family
James was baptised on 23 May 1858 at Epworth, Lincolnshire. His parents were parents Robinson Cheeseman, a PM minister, and Harriett Hudson.
He married Isabella Brown (1867-??) in the spring of 1883 at Sunderland, Co. Durham. Census returns identify nine children.

- Elsie Mary (b1886) – baptised into Catholic Church on 24 October 1907
- Hilda Isabel (1889-1974) – emigrated to USA in 1909, married George Henry Thorne, a streetcar motorman (1920)
- Harold Ambrose Robinson (1889-1961)
- William Brown (1892-1960) – emigrated to Australia in 1914
- James Alfred (b1893) – a draper (1925)
- Sydney Hudson (1895-1917) – died in WW1 at Ypres
- Douglas Vivian Lawrence (1896-1967) – a merchant seaman
- Eric Septimus (1897-1975) – emigrated to Australia in 1914; a farmer (1917)
After leaving the PM ministry James joined the Roman Catholic church, becoming President of the Sacred Heart Conference of St Vincent de Paul’s Society of Edinburgh.
James died on 22 December 1928 at Edinburgh, Scotland.
