Family
Walter was born on 14 October 1874 at Lambeth, Surrey, to parents Walter Cranfield, a carpenter, and Mary Ann Chandler.
Before entering the ministry Walter worked as a clerk (1891). After leaving the ministry he became a journalist. he was a Canadian War correspondent during WW2. At the time of his death he was the London correspondent of the Toronto Evening Telegram.
He married Ellen Amelia Flanagan (abt1873-1961) in the summer of 1901 at Southwark, London. Ellen was a daughter of Rev. James Flanagan. Census returns identify three children.

- Audrey (b1904)
He married Clotilide L. Du-Bois (b abt1899) in late 1928 in London.
Walter died on 11 November 1946 in the Hammersmith Registration District, London. He was cremated at Golders Green.
