Family
Philip was born in 1844 at Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire, to parents Thomas, a farmer, and Louisa.
Before entering the ministry, Philip worked as a solicitor’s clerk (1861). After leaving the Primitive Methodist ministry, Philip was a coal merchant and boot & shoe manufacturer (1871) in Hastings.
He married Louisa Jenner (1840-1923) in the spring of 1869 at Hastings, Sussex. Census returns identify two children.

- Fanny Louisa (1874-1946) – married Henry Charles Moore Hunwick in 1899
Philip died on 13 January 1886 at Adelaide, South Australia.
