Emmitt, Ernest Sydney, M.C. (1879-1944)

Family

Ernest was born in late 1879 at Hull, Yorkshire, to parents John and Frances.

Before entering the ministry, Ernest worked as an estate agent’s clerk (1901).

He married Emily Reed Spence (1872-1946) on 16 September 1908 at the Wesleyan Chapel, Eccles, Lancashire. Records identify two children.

• Margaret Frances Reed (1913-1950) – a nurse
• John Ernest (b1914) – a marine engineer (1938)

Ernest served as a WW1 Chaplain. Follow this link see his picture in uniform.

The family emigrated to New Zealand leaving on a ship bound for Wellington on 31 March 1925.

Ernest died on 4 June 1944 at Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand. He was buried at Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland.
