PERCY FORD: born at Crewe in 1884. After a period as an evangelist, he entered Hartley College in 1911. From all the circuits in which he served come messages of the esteem in which he was held, for his whole life was freely given that the meaning of Christian faith might be revealed through him. Faithfully he sought to interpret the Gospel as Good News, keeping always at the heart of faith and listening to what God had to say to him. His one desire was to be true in the truth of Christ, and one could easily sense how he lived in the closest touch with his resources in God.
He was the steady, earnest, effective man of God, who diligently maintained throughout the years a strong sense of vocation. He was conscientious to the last detail in his determination to do his duty. He knew the treasures of prayer which bore their natural fruit in his devotion to the pastoral side of his work, making him quick in sympathy and understanding where such were needed. The fact that he had just commenced a sixth year in the Retford circuit marked the affection in which he was held. He was compelled to enter hospital for an operation from which he never fully recovered; and on 21st September 1955 he passed peacefully away, in his seventy-first year and the forty-third of his ministry.
