Gilbert, Joseph Edward (1882-1968)

Family

Joseph was born in 1882 at Ashby, Lincolnshire, to parents Thomas Wingate Gilbert, an ironstone miner, and Hannah (Ann) Simpson.

Before entering the ministry Joseph worked as a grocer’s assistant (1901).

He married Annie Whitehead (1880-1960) in the summer of 1913 at Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. Birth records identify two children.

  • Ann Gwendoline (1914-2000) – a school teacher (1939)
  • Frederick Gavin (1917-1986) – a master market gardener (1939)

Joseph died on 28 December 1968 at Dorchester, Dorset.
