Goodwin, Rowland Binnall (1879-1950)
Early years
Rowland was born in 1879 at Tunstall, Staffordshire to parents John William Goodwin and Matilda Eliza Binnall. John worked in the pottery business and in 1891 is identified as a potter’s general manager. Rowland’s brother, Henry was also a PM Minister.
Ministry
Rowland’s obituary records that his youthful spirit made him deeply loved by young people everywhere. This was recognised by his appointment as president of the Isle of Man Christian Endeavour Union.
Always radiant in spirit, his deep Christian convictions and strong faith were an inspiration. Difficulties were faced with courage and insight. He was an able preacher, of wide sympathies and an intense love of his Lord.
Family
Rowland married Catherine Rae Cowe (1887-1948) at Eyemouth, Berwickshire. Records identify three children.
- Mary (1908-1874)
- John Binnall (1910-1964) – a costing and statistical clerk (1950)
- Matilda Helen (1911-1996) – married Ronald Albert Bellfield
Rowland died on 19 August 1950 at Connahs Quay, Flintshire.
