George was born on 6 May 1833 at Winterbourne Monkton, Wiltshire, to parents Edward, who worked the land (1841), and Elizabeth. He was baptised on 2 June 1833 at Avebury Independent Chapel, Wiltshire.
Before entering the ministry George also worked the land (1851).
He was President of the Australian conference in 1878, 1884 and 1890.
He married Ann Matilda Green (b1834) in the summer of 1860 at Newbury, Berkshire.
George died on 4 August 1903 at at Canonbury Grove, Dulwich Hill, N.S.W. He is buried in Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney, New South Wales. The inscription on his grave describes him as a pioneer minister in the Primitive Methodist Church in New South Wales.
