Klenk, Benjamin Henry (b1843)

Family

Benjamin was born in 1843 at Northfleet, Kent, to parents John George Klenk, a cordwainer (1851), and Maria. He was baptised on 31 December 1843 at St Botolph, Northfleet.

In 1871 he is working as a schoolmaster and grocer. Circa 1881-2, Benjamin appears to have been in trouble with the law and appears in the records of Old Bailey trails receiving prison sentences. Lucinda had to enter the Tower Hamlets Workhouse around the time that Benjamin was in trouble. He subsequently uses the name Henry when, in 1891, he is described as an insurance agent.

He married Harriet Cope (b abt1845) in late 1870 in the Poplar Registration District, London.

He married Lucinda Lanning (abt1848-1907) in late 1877 in the Portsea Island Registration District, Hampshire. Census returns identify three children.

  • Julia Emma Jane (abt1879-1920) – married Ernest David Bullock. a clerk (1911), in 1901
  • Percy John George (1882-1969) – a cab driver (1911)
  • Horace Lanning (1888-1893)

I have not been able to identify a death record for Benjamin.
