FREDERICK MOSLEY: born at Farnhill, near Keighley, in 1873. Before offering for the Primitive Methodist Ministry he served as a Lay Agent in Masham. After being trained at Hartley College, he went to Coventry in 1897, and afterwards travelled in Newport, Penzance, Knaresborough, Brighouse, and Hay. In every place his effective preaching and sympathetic pastoral work were greatly appreciated.
He was never robust, and his sensitive preaching made such a strain upon his nervous energy and physical strength that he was obliged to relinquish the work he loved and to retire early from the active Ministry. On medical advice he sought an outdoor life, settled in Knaresborough, and for some years was engaged in horticulture. He became Society Steward, Trustee, Treasurer, and indeed the chief pillar of the Church of which he had been the minister. He never ceased to serve, as he was physically able, both within the Church and without.
He became a governor of the King James’ Grammar School, and for some time was its chairman. He was greatly respected for the simplicity and integrity of his character as well as for his sound judgement. To many he was a wise counsellor and guide. Possessing little of this world’s goods, he was yet rich towards God and generous towards others in thought and deed.
The last years of his life brought him much weakness and pain, yet he never complained. Guided by his faith he walked with fortitude and did not faint. He died on 12 September 1959, in the eighty-seventh year of his age and the sixty-second of his ministry.
