Needle, Henry (1822-1891)

Family

Henry was born on 5 August 1822 at Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, to parents James, a tailor, and Mary. He was baptised on 2 October 1822 at St. Peter, Carmarthen.

He married Mary Welch (1823-1857)  on 10 December 1850 at Stanhope, Co. Durham. Census returns identify four children.

  • Mary (1852-1919) – married John Arthur Neate, a schoolmaster (1901), in 1881; emigrated to Canada in 1903             
  • Eliza Annie (1854-1932) – married William James Needle, a journalist (1911), in 1881                 
  • Barnabas Welch (1856-1931) – a commercial traveller (1911)
  • Caroline Louisa (1857-1930) – married Thomas Rigby, a colliery accountant (1911), in 1877

He married Sarah Allwood (1833-1868) in early 1859 in the Oswestry Registration District, Shropshire. Census returns identify three children.

  • Alfred William (b1860)  – Royal Navy apprentice (1874)              
  • Arthur James (1864-1933) – a railway guard (1933)                
  • Robert Newton (1866-1924)   – a mill furnisher (1911)        

Henry died on 20 April 1891 at Layton Road, Blackpool, Lancashire.
