Owen, Richard (1812-1852)

Ministry

A transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by Philip Pugh is attached. He sums up Richard’s character as follows. 

“As a Christian, our brother’s piety was deep and intelligent; as a minister, he was wise to win souls, His preaching though not brilliant, was good and highly practical. His talents were about mediocrity. He was attentive and punctual to business, and obliging in his manners.”

Family

Richard was born in 1812 at Lydham, nr Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire, to parents Thomas and Ann. He was baptised on 26 January 1812 at Wistantow, Shropshire.

He married Martha Brown (b abt1822) in the summer of 1850 in the Great Broughton Registration District, Cheshire.

Richard died on 1 June 1852 at Darlaston, Staffordshire.
