Peatfield, Wilfred James (1885-1942)

Transcription of obituary published in the Minutes of Conference

WILFRED JAMES PEATFIELD: born at Retford in 1885. He came of excellent Methodist stock, and after training at Hartley College entered the Primitive Methodist Ministry in 1906.

His pulpit work was always of high quality. To his pastoral duties he gave close attention, being specially diligent in visiting the sick and aged. The younger members of his flock were also constantly remembered. As an administrator he was careful and competent. Our Church will gratefully remember his consecrated ministry of thirty-six years, in which, while there was no glitter, there was much fine gold.

He passed to the higher service suddenly but peacefully on September 6, 1942.

Family

Wilfred was born on 3 August 1885 at Retford, Nottinghamshire, to parents John Peatfield, a market gardener and farmer (1901), and Ada Kate Hempsall. His older brother, Ernest, was also a PM minister before emigrating to Canada and, later, the USA.

He was educated at Retford Grammar School and Elmfield College.

He married Amy Rhodes (1884-1978) in the summer of 1910 in the Madeley Registration District, Shropshire.

Wilfred died on 6 September 1942 at Hatton, Derbyshire.
