Plevin, Thomas (abt1801-1882)

Research Notes

This was possibly Thomas Plevin, born abt1801 at Nantwich, Cheshire, to parents Joseph and Rebecca. He was baptised on 18 January 1801 at Nantwich.

Thomas moved from Nantwich to Salford at some time between 1851 and early 1855 when his daughter, Sarah, died.

Census returns identify the following occupations for Thomas.

  • 1851 agricultural labourer
  • 1861 boot and shoe maker
  • 1871 bootmaker
  • 1881 bootmaker

He married Hannah Cheers (abt1807-1848) on 3 July 1826 at St John the Baptist, Chester, Cheshire. Census returns identify six children.

  • Mary Ann (1828-1852)
  • James (1830-1894) – a joiner apprentice (1851); a house carpenter (1861)
  • Thomas (1832-1890) – a general servant (1851); a machine labourer (1871)
  • William (1834-1904) – a machine labourer (1871); a commercial traveller (1891)
  • Abraham (1835-1918) – a rope maker apprentice (1851); emigrated to USA circa 1871
  • Frances Hannah (1837-1842)

He married Sarah Slater (1806-1888) on 5 October 1848 at Nantwich, Cheshire. Census returns identify one child.

  • Sarah (1849-1855)

Thomas died in late 1882 at Salford, Lancashire.
