A transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by John Morton is attached. Morton records that John was converted in 1829 and was put on the local preachers’ plan in 1831. He comments that” his labours were many and useful; and though not possessed of first-rate talent, he made his way well.”
Joh’s short ministry was punctuated with several bouts of illness culminating in February 1838 in having to return to his father’s house at Bishop’s Castle after about three months in the Prees Circuit. Petty attributes John’s sufferings to having been “put into a damp bed.”
John was born on 2 March 1809 at Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire, to parents Richard and Mary.
John died on 10 October 1838 at Bishop’s Castle.
