Ministry
A transcription of journal extracts published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine is attached. Ralph had been a local preacher for about nine years before being called into the ministry in his home circuit in March 1832. His journal covers the period up to March 1833 when he was stationed at Carlisle.
Family
Ralph was born in 1792 at Muggleswick, Co. Durham, to parents James and Sarah. He was baptised on 22 July 1792 at Muggleswick.
Census returns identify the following occupations for Ralph.
- 1841 dissenting preacher
- 1851 wood keeper
- 1861 agricultural labourer
- 1871 annuitant
He married Isabella Murray, nee Martin (1792-1857) by licence on 25 June 1836 at Hexham, Northumberland. The marriage licence was dated 11 June 1836.
Ralph died in the summer of 1872 at Bavington, Northumberland.
