Family
Jonathan was born abt1814 at Askwith, nr. Otley, Yorkshire, to parents John Ratcliffe, a farmer, and Elizabeth Barret.
Census returns identify the following occupations for Jonathan after he left the PM ministry.
- 1861 bookseller and news vendor in Doncaster
- 1871 employed by Rev. H.F. Brock as a scripture reader
- 1881 scripture reader
- 1891 retired scripture reader
He married Mary Ann Maynard (1822-1848) on 11 November 1845 in the Scarborough Registration District, Yorkshire. They had two children (twins) who died within a week of birth in 1846.
He married Eliza Thompson, nee Glew, (1815-1887) in the summer of 1849 in the Thorne Registration District, Yorkshire. (This district includes Epworth, Lincolnshire.) Census returns identify one child.
Jonathan (1850-1914) – a solicitor (1911)
He married Eliza Henrietta Allen, nee Brooks (abt1825-1910) in the summer of 1890 at Doncaster, Yorkshire.
Jonathan died on 5 May 1894 at Doncaster, Yorkshire.
