Renshaw, Norman (1909-2006)

Transcription of obituary published in the Minutes of Conference

NORMAN RENSHAW: born in Sale Moor, Cheshire, on 28″ June 1909. The only child of Anglican parents, he began to attend the local Primitive Methodist Sunday School in 1914 and was a Methodist for the rest of his life. He became a Sunday School teacher, Local Preacher, and was accepted as a candidate for the ministry in 1932. 

After training at Hartley Victoria College he spent his probation in the High Wycombe and Forest of Dean Circuits, being ordained at Liverpool in 1939. He married Ena Teece of Urmston, who shared in the work for the whole of his ministry. They had two children, Ann and Kathleen. 

After ordination he served in the following circuits: Buckingham and Brackley, Keighley, Driffield, Helston, Nuneaton and Atherstone, Shaftesbury and Gillingham, Plymouth (East), Redditch, and as Superintendent in Daventry, Abertillery, Rhosymedre and Chirk, Cadishead and Garstang. He became a Supernumerary in 1974 and lived with his wife and younger daughter, first at Kendal and later at Salisbury. He died in Salisbury on 27″ February 2006 in the ninety-seventh year of his age and the seventy-first year of his ministry.


Norman was born on 28 June 1909 at Sale, Cheshire, to parents Albert Ernest Renshaw and Annie Graham. He was baptised on 18 August 1909 at St Anne, Sale.

He married Salome Ena Ann  Teece (1907-1997) in the summer of 1939 in the Barton Registration District, Lancashire. They had two children.

Norman died on 27 February 2006 at Salisbury, Wiltshire.
