Richards, John (1806-1892)

Family

John was born on 1 November 1806 at Oswestry, Shropshire, to parents John and Ann. He was baptised on 16 November 1806 at Oswestry.

The census returns 1861-1891 all describe John as a PM minister or retired PM minister. They give no clue as to how he gained an income.

He married Jane Johns (1797-1855) on 1 July 1835 at Redruth. She was the widow of Captain A. Johns. Census returns identify one child.

  • Mary Jane (b1837) – assistant matron at reform school (1861) 

He married Jane Maudrell (1824-1878)  in the summer of 1858 in the Gloucester Registration District, Gloucestershire. Census returns identify three children.

  • John Theodore (1859-1915)  – a medical practitioner (1891)   
  • Leonard Henry (1862-1941) – district manager for Smioth Premier Typewriter Co (1911)
  • Clara Beatrice (1864-1938) – a proprietor of a shorthand & typewriting office (1911)

John died on 24 June 1892 at Ledbury, Herefordshire.
