Robson, Robert (1891-1949)
Transcription of Obituary in Minutes of Methodist Conference
Born at Lemington-on-Tyne, Northumberland, in 1891. Entering the Ministry in 1915 after training at Hartley College, he served two terms in Ipswich, then moved to Manchester.
From there he went to Glasgow, where he stayed for eleven years and was zealous in many good causes and did splendid work in the Whiteinch Circuit.
He will always be remembered for his friendly personality. He was the big brother of the boys and girls, the sociable, interested comrade of all men. He was the pastor who, from his own experience of weakness and pain, under- stood and ministered with discernment.
He was a preacher of the Gospel who brought to his vocation the wealth of his own knowledge of the Scriptures and the treasure of his own experience of life. We thank God for his life and character, for thirty-four years of faithful service as a Methodist Minister, for a joyous and generous nature.
He will long be remembered gratefully by those to whom his example was a constant inspiration.
The call to his heavenly service came suddenly on 18th October 1949, while he was in the full vigour of health and the active service of his circuit. Making a remarkable recovery from a serious illness, his return to full work had been welcomed.
Short as his term of service in the Church Gresley Circuit was, it proved sufficient for him to find his way to the hearts of the people, and for them to know his worth as a Methodist minister, to welcome his devotion, his quick sympathy and his many activities.
