Roe, Harvey - supporting Miners in 1893

An article from the Lichfield Mercury reporting on the 1893 dispute between colliery owners and miners. As a result of the plunge in coal price the owners wanted to reduce wages by 25%. In this report Revd Harvey Roe (PM Minister in Brownhills etc on Lichfield PM Circuit) supports the miners and, at a rally, encourages speakers to stand in his pony trap to address the crowds. Incidentally, on 1881 Census, Harvey Roe is lodging with a miner’s family while on the Old Hill Circuit.
