This was possibly James Roughsedge born abt1802 at Preston Brook, Cheshire.

Census returns identify the following occupations for James.

• 1841 porter
• 1851 canal carrier’s porter
• 1861 formerly canal carrier’s porter
• 1871 invalid – blind for 14 years

He married Elizabeth Pickering  (1807-1889) on 2 October 1926 at All Saints, Runcorn, Cheshire. Census returns identify four children

• Eliza (b abt1831)
• John (1833-1844)
• Sarah (1836-1877) –  married Thomas Johnson, a station master (1881)
• Thomas William (1839-1863) – a canal carrier’s book-keeper (1861)

James was buried on 3 May 1873 at Daresbury, Cheshire.
