Family

Samuel was born on 20 March 1804 at Wirksworth, Derbyshire, to parents Joshua and Martha. He was baptised on 15 September 1811 at Wirksworth.

Census returns identify the following occupations for Samuel.

• 1851 bookseller & newsagent
• 1861 bookseller
• 1871 second hand dealer and P. Methodist local preacher

He married Rachel Relton (abt1808-1848). Records identify six children.

• Joshua William (1833-1842)
• Ann Jemima (1834-1893) – married John Lewis, a United Methodist minister, in 1860
• Louisa Martha (1837-1913) – married William Robinson, a needle maker (1871), in 1858
• Edwin Tyne (1839-1908) – a tailor      
• Emma Euphemia (1842-1883) – married John Kirkwood, a cotton spinner, in 1865; married John Weston, a coal miner, after 1871
• Samuel Joshua (1846-1939) – a shoe maker

He married Henrietta Watts (abt1797-1872) on 15 July 1849 at St Matthew, Brixton, London

Samuel died in late 1880 at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
