Salt, Benjamin (1836-1903)

Family

Benjamin was born on 15 December 1836 at Dudley, Worcestershire, to parents William Salt, a mine agent (1851,  and Maria Davies. He was baptised on 14 February 1837 at Round Oak PM Chapel, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.

Census returns identify the following occupations for Benjamin.

  • 1851 machine keeper.
  • 1871 PM minister
  • 1881 grocer & baker
  • 1891 grocer & baker
  • 1901 retired grocer

He married Mary Parry (1841-1904) in the summer of 1865 in the Whitchurch Registration District, Shropshire. Census returns identify four children.

  • Herbert Parry (1867-1874)
  • John Benjamin (1869-1941) – a grocer, baker & sub-postmaster (1911)
  • Aquila Joseph (abt1873-1936)  – a baker & grocer (1911)
  • Mary Ellen (1875-1884)

Benjamin died on 18 May 1903 at Winsford, Cheshire.
