Shaw, James (1824-1886)

Family

James was born on 12 April 1824 at Wakefield, Yorkshire, to parents Charles Shaw and Joanna Ridsdale. He was baptised on 25 December 1824 at Wakefield. Census returns identify the following occupations for James.

  • 1851 PM minister
  • 1861 clerk in a paint & oil shop
  • 1871 oil & colour manufacturer
  • 1881 glass merchant employing one boy

He married Frances Ann Atterby (1824-1901)   of Brigg, Lancs. Frances was the daughter of Samuel Atterby.  Census returns identify seven children.

  • Richard Rowland Minton (1854-1933)  – an accountant (1901)
  • Francis Ann Goodair (b1857) – married William Rothwell Bottomley, a tube merchant (1901), in 1874          
  • Emily Jane (b1859)       
  • Clara Maria Woodhouse (1861-1941) – married David George Edwards, a driller in building trade (1911), in 1894
  • James Walter (b1864)
  • Ada Roberta (1868-1964) – a sewing machine instructress (1891); a hospital nurse (1911)

James died on 19 June 1886 at Manchester, Lancashire.
