Staines, Joseph (1893-1970)

Transcription of obituary published in the Minutes of Conference

JOSEPH STAINES: entered the Primitive Methodist ministry in 1926 and travelled in the following circuits: Thanet, Wishaw, Cwm, Mountain Ash, West Monmouth Mission, Rhondda (Ely Valley), Crewe, Scunthorpe and Winterton, Kiveton Park, Sheffield (North- East). At his own request there is no obituary, other than this record of his service. 

He died on 15 December 1970, in the seventy-eighth year of his age, and the forty-fifth of his ministry.

Family

Joseph was born on 3 February 1893 at West Pelton, Co. Durham, to parents Hamilton Staines, a coal miner, and Thirza Groves.

Before entering the ministry Joseph worked as a weighman at coke ovens (1911).

He married Elsie Winifred Scott in the summer of 1930 at Ramsgate, Kent. Birth records identify two children.

Joseph died on 15 December 1970 in the Cheadle Registration District, Staffordshire.
