Stokes, Ezra (1877-1957)

Family

Ezra was born on 10 August 1877 at West Bromwich, Staffordshire, to parents John, a milk dealer (1881), and Ellen.

The 1939 register records Ezra as a dairy farmer at Witney, Oxfordshire.

He married Maggie Frances Ashworth, nee Richmond (1883-1963) in early 1951 in the Wandsworth Registration District, London. They had clearly been living together as man and wife for many years before the marriage. The relationship was likely to have been the cause of Ezra leaving the ministry. Birth records identify three children.

  • Robert Joseph (1920-1994) – a dairy farm worker (1939)
  • Roger Bernard (b1923) – a farmer (1957)
  • Mary M (1926-1942)

Ezra died on 19 June 1957 at Littlemore Hospital, Littlemore, Oxfordshire.
