Family

George was born abt1820 at Rodington, Shropshire, to parents Christopher and Sarah. He was baptised on 13 February 1820 at Rodington.

Census returns identify the following occupations for George.

  • 1841 mechanic
  • 1851 PM preacher at Sandbach
  • 1861 confectioner at Builth
  • 1871 confectioner & local preacher 
  • 1881 confectioner, local preacher
  • 1891 confectioner & grocer
  • 1901 grocer & confectioner

He married Maria Naylor (abt1826-1905) in late 1850 in the Walsall Registration District, Staffordshire.  Census returns identify eight children.                     

  • Sarah Elizabeth (1853-1912) – married John Gough Naylor, a poultry dealer (1881), in 1879    
  • Christopher George (1856-1866)                            
  • Margaret Maria (1858 -1939) – married Samuel Albert Naylor, a grocer (1891), in 1885                      
  • Edward Naylor (1860-1932) – a butcher (1911)
  • Catherine Harriet (1862-1917) – a boarding housekeeper (1911)
  • Ann Harrington (1865-1939) – a boarding housekeeper (1911)
  • Drucilla Jane (1867-1926) – married John Duggan, a draper & clothier (1911), in 1898
  • Laura (1870-1958) – a boarding housekeeper (1911)

George died on 6 December 1907 at Builth, Breconshire.
