Family
Rupert was born in late 1841 at Dilhorne, Staffordshire, to parents Matthew Thorley and Ann Hurst, a widow and laundress (1851).
Census returns identify the following occupations for Rupert.
- 1851 scholar
- 1861 china dealer’s shopman
Rupert married Elizabeth Nightingarl (b1848) in late 1866 at Dover Kent.
The London Gazette records Rupert as bankrupt in August 1869. Rupert died in the summer of 1869 at Bath, Somerset. After Rupert’s death, Elizabeth returned to live with her parents in Kent. I have not been able to identify Elizabeth after the 1881 census return.
