Tonkin, Benjamin (1843-1916)

Family

Benjamin was born in abt1843 at Chacewater, Nr. Truro, Cornwall, to parents James Tonkin, a copper and tin miner (1861), and Eleanor Skewes. Brothers John and William were also PM ministers who migrated to the Congregational ministry.

Before entering the ministry Benjamin was a copper and tin miner (1861).

He married Isabella (1844-1921) in late 1869 in the Rochdale Registration District, Lancashire. Isabella was a daughter of Rev. Thomas Jobling. Census returns identify one child.

  • Thomas Jobling (1870-1943)  – a physician & surgeon (1911)

Benjamin died on 31 May 1916 at Yapton, Sussex.
