Family

Nathaniel was born on 8 March 1825 at Cirencester, Gloucestershire, to parents John, a hatter (1841), and Susanna. He was baptised on 1 May 1825 at Cirencester.

The Surman Index records that Nathaniel attended the Cotton End Academy, Bedfordshire in 1849.

Census returns identify the following occupations for Nathaniel.

  • 1851 theological student
  • 1861 grocer at Mathon, Ledbury, Worcestershire
  • 1871 grocer & general dealer
  • 1881 grocer (master)
  • 1891 retired grocer & provision dealer
  • 1901 honorary evangelist

He married Harriet Cook (abt1822-1894) in early 1854 in the Cirencester Registration District, Gloucestershire. Census returns identify two children.

  • Ellen (1856-1970)
  • Charles Nathaniel (1863-1922) – a grocer (1891); a baker (1901)

He married Jane Eyles (1845-1928)  in late 1895 in the Ledbury Registration District, Herefordshire.

Nathaniel died on 12 January 1908 at Chapel House, West Malvern, Worcestershire.
