Leonard was born on 2 April 1898 at St George’s, Shropshire, to parents John Tudor, a colliery checkweighman (1911), and Harriet Jane Turner. He was baptised on 22 April 1898 at Oakengates, Shropshire.

He married Eliza Ellen Clay (1897-1979) on 10 September 1924 in the Shifnal Registration District, Shropshire. Birth records identify one child.

Leonard died on 30 April 1986 at Northampton, Northamptonshire.
