Windram, Shirley (1878-1929)

Early years

Shirley was born abt1878 to parents George and Sarah. George was a PM Minister.

Ministry

Shirley commenced his ministry in Bedale, but broke down in his first year. After a year at Hastings, he joined his father at Bilston and again at Cambridge. When he went to Aberdare, Shirley was joined by his father, who had by that time superannuated.

His health failed whilst at Tredegar, and father and son settled in Bournemouth. He had a long and trying illness but he never lost his fund of quiet, pawky humour and sly harmless fun. He was able to prepare occasional articles for the press from his sick-bed.

Family

Shirley married Mary Hannah Wilcox (1886-1964). In the spring of 1919 at Aberdare, Glamorgan. They had one child.

Shirley died on 1 May 1929 at Bournemouth, Hampshire.

Shirley died within a year of his father and their obituaries follow on in the 1929 Minutes of Conference.

  • Shirley was my Grandfather. He was born 1 December 1877. He married Mary Hannah Wilcox on 22 April 1919 at Bethesda Chapel, Monk Street, Aberdare (PM). Mary’s Father William Wilcox (1857-1931) was Sunday School teacher, local preacher and Circuit Steward, speaking at conference and serving on various District committees.
