Walden, James (1840-1872)


James was born in 1840 at Hornton, Oxfordshire, to parents James, a blacksmith (1851) and Mary.

Census returns identify the following occupations for James.

  • 1861 blacksmith
  • 1871 student of theology

He married Margaret Sarah Howell (1848-1928) in the summer of 1870 in the Monmouth Registration District, Monmouthshire. Census returns identify one child.

  • Mary Elizabeth Eleanor (1871-1928) – emigrated to New Zealand; married Robert Duncan in 1894

James died in the summer of 1872 in the Bridgewater Registration District, Somerset.

Margaret married William Dowle, a blacksmith, in 1874 and emigrated to New Zealand.
