Family

John was born on 17 May 1817 at Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, to parents John and Martha. at Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. He was baptised on 8 June 1817 at St Mary Independent Chapel, baker gate, Nottingham.

Census returns identify the following occupations for John.

  • 1851 PM minister
  • 1861 whip thong manufacturer at Denstone, Uttoxeter
  • 1871 whip thong maker – noted as blind
  • 1881 no occupation – living at Aston, Warwickshire

He married Hannah Hughes (1810-1855) in late 1846 in the Hereford Registration District, Herefordshire.

He married Catherine Maskery (1832-1898) in the summer of 1855 in the Uttoxeter Registration District, Staffordshire. Census returns identify three children.

  • George Taylor (1856-1895) – an office clerk (1891)               
  • Lydia Taylor (1859-1942) – married Walter Richard Perry, a labourer (1891), in 1890         
  • Elizabeth (b1862) – a warehouse assistant (1891); married William Summerfield, a tailor (1911), in 1902

John died in the spring of 1882 at Aston, Warwickshire.
