It is possible that this was Robert Ward (1840-1899) who became a Congregational minister (Surman Index id: 28575).
He was born on 23 April 1840 at Beverley, Yorkshire and died on 1 August 1899. he attended Paton Congregational College, Nottingham in 1869 . Subsequently he served at Woodham Ferrers, Essex (1872-1878); Brickfields, Worcestershire (1890—1893); and Leigh on Sea, Essex (1898-1899). He also spent some time at Wingham, Ontario, Canada.
