Ministry

A transcription of the obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by G Bagley is attached. It focuses primarily on his last few weeks in the Darlaston circuit. It concludes as follows.

“He possessed good talents, was remarkably upright, and much beloved in the circuits.”

Family

Robert was born on 5 February 1802 at Selby, Yorkshire, to parents Robert and Rebecca.

He married Hannah Nicholson (1803-1875) on 30 September 1823 at Howden, Yorkshire. Census returns identify four children.

  • Mary Ann (b abt1826)
  • Sarah (b abt1827) – a worsted weaver (1951)  
  • William (1829-1916) – a wool sorter (1851); a wool salesman (1871)
  • Elizabeth (1833-1906) – a worsted weaver (1851); married Isaac Swinden, a coal dealer (1881), in 1873

Robert died on 20 November 1834 at Darlaston, Staffordshire.
