Sep 1849 - Mar 1850

RECORD OF MEMBERS – September 1849-March 1850.

Lincolnshire Archives Office – METH/B/Gainsborough/36/5

A Society Report Book got up by order of the Conference held at Lynn Regis, May 20th- 25th, 1836.

Preachers had to keep Quarterly Records of Membership and issue membership tickets each quarter. They had to record remarks such as dead, removed to, left, fallen, approved, on trial and doubtful.

Preachers had to present the Report Book to the Circuit Committee each quarter and the Committee must record that they had examined it in their Minute Book. When preachers moved to another Circuit, they must deliver the Report Books to the Circuit Committee or Circuit Steward who will give the Report Books to their successors on arrival.

In the List of Members shown below, the Membership Secretary used the following references:

A = Approved member

T = prospective member “On Trial”- undertaking a series of meetings about membership of the Primitive Methodist Church.

Fallen = someone who had ceased to worship in the Primitive Methodist Church.

Removed = a member who had gone to another Primitive Methodist Church.

Doubtful = someone who attended church occasionally and the Church Leaders were unsure if the person would attend membership classes in the future.
