Lydbury North Primitive Methodist Chapel

Lydbury North Primitive Methodist Chapel is situated a short distance up a side road off the main road through Lydbury North. The Chapel was built and opened in 1872 on land costing £10. When built it probably was on the edge of the village. In the 1940s it had seating for 100 reduced by the 1970s to 80. There was one extra room built later for a Sunday School.

At the beginning of the 1980s the Chapel ceased to be used for worship and was closed. When visited in 2020 the Chapel had been tastefully converted into a private dwelling.

  • Does anyone remember Bill Kirby, a lay preacher in the Methodist church in Lydbury north in the 1940s to 1950s. He lived at no. 44 Lydbury North, now known as Kirby’s cottage

  • This chapel formerly had two pages on this site, which I have combined here.

Janice Cox had added a comment to the other page. which read: “This place has always been known as “Lydbury North” not “North Lydbury”. Anyone using your website might not find it if they looked under “N” !
