Hugh Bourne's grave in 1907

In 1907, W J Harper, in Mow Cop and its Slopes, described the cemetery at Englesea Brook as ‘carefully kept’ .

‘In it Hugh Bourne is buried, under a yew tree at the extreme end of the road which runs down the centre of the square enclosure. There are many worthy Primitives interred here, both itinerant and lay preachers, and workers.’
