Recently discovered and published the journals of Brother Joseph Hewitt 1811-1888. Born in Birmingham, orphaned at 15, worked in U.S . where he was powerfully converted to Christ by the Holy Spirit, the experience he described as “fire in my bones”. Back in UK he joined the PMs who commissioned him a missionary to the “New World”, the States of Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. His journal describes in detail life on the frontier, travelling his circuit on foot, horseback and buggy through blizzards, floods and natural disasters, preaching several times on Sundays and during the week.
