The Primitive Methodist magazine for October 1842 contains an account by William Rowe of the opening of the first Primitive Methodist chapel in Northern Ireland at Donoughmore (sic), County Down. It measured 36′ x 25′ and was 16′ high.
The ground for the chapel was given by John Marshall, Esq. . Other names listed in the account are Mr G. Kidd; Mr R. Rutherford; W. Rowe; Bro. Flesher and Mr R. Wilson.
The opening services began on July 18th 1841
The chapel was in the Preston Brook circuit. Where exactly was it and what happened to it?

The Index of Irish Methodist Churches, Chapels and Preaching Houses reports that Donaghmore Primitive Methodist chapel was transferred to the Irish Methodist Church in 1879
20 years ago I was taken to Donaghmore by a supernumerary minister who had preached there as a young man. It was derelict by then but still recognizable. I may still have a photo somewhere. It was situated in a remote spot a few miles north of Newry and had been part of the Newry circuit after it joined the Methodist Church in Ireland. In the manse at Warrenpoint, still furnished by the circuit in those days, there was a Primitive Methodist centenary plate on the wall.
