ROBERT KEY - INSPIRATIONAL EVANGELIST

ROBERT KEY’S GOSPEL – TWO-MINUTES OF SAVING TRUTH
INSPIRATION FOR STREET PREACHERS AND PASTORS TODAY…

Primitive Methodist minister the Revd Robert Key (1805-76) preached a memorable sermon at Rockland St Peter, near Attleborough, Norfolk in 1837. This gripping snippet reveals the heart of a faithful and compassionate Christian evangelist.

The text is quoted in Thomas Lowe’s biography ‘The Norfolk Herald of the Cross and Apostle of East Anglia’ (London and Toronto, 1881).

The author wrote that ‘the effects of that single discourse remain to this day; and veteran office-bearers and old members of our societies, on the East Dereham [preaching] station, and on neighbouring stations, excitedly speak of its “thunder words” of power’ (p. 59).

Clearly, the preacher was driven by the same passion of the Apostle Paul, whose famous words appear on the title page of the biography: “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Galatians 6:14).

NOTE: I apologise that my voice does not match Robert Key’s powerful stentorian eloquence. Since no information about Key’s regional accent exists, I have resisted the temptation to use an ‘East Anglian’ voice!
