Exmouth The Parade Primitive Methodist chapel

Wesleyan Methodists built their first chapel in the Parade in 1843 and by 1859 they were in need of a bigger building so sold their chapel to the Prims. Subsequently in 1872 the Wesleyans completed a new church – Christchurch – in Brunswick (now Windsor) Square.

The chapel was re-opened after re-building in 1890. The “whole structure has been remodelled and additional convenience provided for the Sunday school” Prims going on holiday to Exmouth would find “every accommodation they could desire”.

The Parade Methodist Church was damaged by bombing during WWII, but the congregation continued to meet there for many years. Eventually it was deemed unsafe and was closed, and the membership was merged with the former Wesleyan society in Tower Street.
