When did the chapel open?

Cumulative index of chapel openings from the Primitive Methodist magazine

The Primitive Methodist magazine contains accounts of chapel openings, the laying of foundation stones and significant chapel events such as re-opening after improvement work.  We are working our way through the entries  with the aim of adding each chapel  and key information to this website. There are around 2,100 so far, with a long way to go – we are around halfway through the existence of the Primitive Methodist Connexion..

The attached document on this page is a simple list recording chapel name, the (probable) year in which it opened and the edition of the Primitive Methodist magazine in which it appeared.

In an insight into the accuracy of historical records, occasionally we have examples where there are two accounts about a chapel – with a different opening year cited in each.

The document will be updated from time to time.  Currently it  covers each year from 1821 until 1885 apart from 1844 and 1849. It’s taken six years to get this far!!
