Corna (Cornaa) Primitive Methodist chapel

In the 1869 Primitive Methodist magazine, Frederick Smith tells us about three new chapels that have opened at Corna, Ballalheigh and Kirk Michael, all in the Peel branch of the Ramsey circuit. Of Corna he says,

“Here our friends have, with laudable zeal, erected a nice new chapel, considerably larger than the old one was. Its Gothic iron-window sashes, diamond shape panes, and the border of red, yellow, and blue glass around the four gable ones, are very effective. Neat settees, good ornamental platform and portico, all stained and varnished, and with handsome Gothic folding-doors, give it an immensely superior appearance to the old chapel.

It cost about £200, £150 of which we have raised ; but on account of £30 debt being on the old chapel, we have a debt of £80, with a few pounds in hand towards paying off the £30, which is expected to be done before long. Our thanks are hereby tendered to all our friends who helped us in this good work. But above all, we would be grateful to God for a gracious revival m this new house of prayer, so that we have doubled the number of members we had connected with the old chapel. The opening sermons were by the writer, William Callistor, Esq., W. R.Leare, Esq., Wesleyans, and Mr. J. Corlett. The society and congregations continue to prosper, “Ebenezer.”
