Whitehaven Mount Pleasant Primitive Methodist chapel

Mount Pleasant ; Return from the Primitive Methodist chapel in the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship
transcribed by David Tonks

The return to the 1851 Census tells us that Whitehaven Mount Pleasant Primitive Methodist chapel was built before 1800 i.e. before the birth of the Primitive Connexion. It was very well attended with averages of 200 in the afternoon and 400 in the evenings.  But we are also told that attendance varies.  It was much lower on fine summer days “when many spent their Sabbaths in pleasure taking” or on “foul days”
