Mexborough Roman Terrace Primitive Methodist chapel

The 1880 Primitive Methodist magazine tells us of the laying of the memorial stones for “a neat little school-chapel” at Roman Terrace, Mexborough. The 1890 Ordnance Survey map shows a Primitive Methodist chapel set back from Wath Road, just to the east of what is now Queen Street. It is right against what was then a railway line. it is adjacent to what Street View identifies as the Roman Fish Bar.

It is still there on the 1901 map. By 1929 the original chapel is relabelled as a Sunday school and a new, larger, more rectangular  chapel has been built in front of it, fronting Wath Road.
