Crewe Primitive Methodist chapel 1846

In the 1847 Primitive Methodist magazine there is an account by TW of the opening of Crewe Primitive Methodist chapel in the Burland circuit.

I 1840 the town did not exist. By 1846 it had 3,000 inhabitants and the Prims were the first religious denomination to mission there, in the open air. They then met in a house before buying a plot of land for £48 10s. and building a chapel.

It opened on November 1st 1846. Opening preachers were messrs Bateman and Williams (Macclesfield). They expected to expand; the chapel was designed so that it could be lengthened by 13 ‘.
